A message from our Senior Pastor
Piedmont Family & Friends,
There are times when you don’t know what to do. You pray, you read everything you can and listen to experts. There is so much unknown at this point with COVID19, but we do know that cases are rising in our community and state. I believe in my heart, after a lot of prayer and agonizing, that pausing our campus re-opening would be our best course at this time. I know that there is not going to be a day where we are 100% sure of everything, regarding COVID19. I spoke with Dr. Mark Salsberry, (head of all of WellStar’s Urgent Care centers, and a member of Piedmont’s Campus Re-Opening Logistics Team) and he was relieved when I called to get his guidance on whether or not to move forward with our planned campus re-opening. He was excited about our initial campus re-opening plans, but he is very concerned with the major increase of COVID19 cases in our area. So reluctantly, with a broken heart and with a major degree of uncertainty, I, along with our staff, have made the decision to pause our campus re-opening plans.
As much as we have all wanted to gather in person on campus beginning this Sunday, I agree that ‘pausing’ is wise and responsible for several reasons:
- Your safety and the safety of your families is a top priority for us. When we return, we have many measures in place to provide the safest possible worship environment.
- We have a multi-generation congregation and we want to protect those who are most vulnerable in our congregation and in our community.
- We had planned to return to on-campus worship with a few other community churches. Including Piedmont, three out of those five churches have now chosen to ‘pause’ their campus re-opening plans in response to COVID19-related reasons.
- Our witness to our community is one of the strongest reasons to ‘pause’ for a short time before re-opening our campus.
It breaks our hearts that on-campus worship will need to wait a bit longer. Our Staff, Elders, Dream Teamers and others have worked hard to prepare our campus for in-person worship.
I promise that I will keep you up-to-date on our plans to re-open our campus for worship as well as re-opening other on-campus environments for children, students and eventually groups as we make those decisions. We will watch closely what our local school system will do, as they have been our best guide to this point. Please pray for me and our staff as we strive to make wise decisions to protect you, our church and our community.
This Sunday we will continue our live-stream services at 9:30am, 11:00am and 8:00pm. Please worship together at home with us. Please pray for our Worship and Production Team as they serve faithfully and ask God to bless them as they serve Him!
I love you all and I will look forward to seeing you on-line on Sunday!
In the Master’s service,
Dr. Dwight “Ike” Reighard
We do ask that if you are in an at-risk group, continue to join us on-line. As much as we want to all be together again, we want everyone to remain safe and healthy! We completely understand that joining us in-person for worship will happen at a future time for many people.
